Thankfulness Day 1

Kicking off a new season of blogging with a renewed motivation.  Today I am thankful for children.  Not just the cute ones you want to take home and feed cookies to all day-- NOT in a weird way!  But the children who need that one extra hug.  The boy too scared to raise his hand in class because his self esteem is so low you couldn't scoop it up off the ground with a spatula.  A little friend who wears her shirts inside out twice in a row because she doesn't have any clean clothes.  Or socks.  Or has to wear boys underwear three sizes too big because her family can't afford anything better than older brother's hand me downs.

These children are the ones we lose sleep over every night.  They are our motivation to fight for them and their safety, health, happiness, and education.  I am thankful for them because they ground me.  I want to be a better person for them because they need a foundation, a rock, a safe haven.

Even if it's just a pop tart you give them in the morning.  Or a cuddle.  Perhaps a bonding moment when a sister curls up in your lap and tells you her favorite LipSmacker's chapstick is strawberry because 'it smells just like you do!'.

Kids look up to you.  Be thankful for that...you never know what YOU might learn!

Counting (literally) my blessings!
XOXO Summer
